BE FLEXIBLE IN YOUR DESIRES (PART 2)

And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work – 2 Corinthians 9:8

August 2nd 2019

In continuation from yesterday’s reading, I want you to take note that there is a big difference between what WE NEED, and what WE WANT. God will not give us all that we want, but He would give us all that we need. This is so in order to enable us to fulfill every good work assigned to us by God.

To abound in every good work is to do those things pleasing to God while fulfilling our divine call and mission on earth. Therefore, although God may not grant exactly as we have prayed, He definitely would do for us the things that would greatly benefit us, even though they are not exactly as we had prayed. The most important thing that the will of God protects is our satisfaction in God’s own way. When God answers our prayers, He does so in His own way, which may either be as we had prayed, or different from our request, yet bringing with it a different experience altogether. God knows what is good for us now and in the future. Whatever He does for us in the process of waiting on Him will be good for us, now and forever. This is because God is the only one who can declare the end from the beginning, and things from the ancient times not yet revealed (Isaiah 46:10). As a believer, there is nothing wrong praying for anything you think is good for you. But when the positive changes begin to happen, and it is not in the direction of what you wanted, do not reject the opportunity thus presented to you, by still holding strong to your initial expectation for a particular thing or occurrence. This is because you may have asked wrongly without knowing, but God, knowing what is best for you, decided to bless you with something different, but better than what you had prayed for. In that case, it is wise to accept God’s miracles or gift the way they are and thank God for His provisions.  To reject positive changes after we have prayed, just because what we see falls short of our expectations is not right. If in spite of what God has provided, you still continue to wait and expect something different, you may encounter frustrations along the line. It is therefore very important to accept with gratitude the much or little that God has given to us and move forward with that. The scripture says that we should pray without ceasing, BUT THAT in all things we should give thanks to God for that is the will of God for us in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Again, today’s word reminds us to be ready for the miracles that will enable us fulfill God’s purpose only.

 PRAYER

Father in the name of Jesus Christ. let thy will be done in my life so that I may abound in good works at all times. Thank you, father. AMEN.
